ScubeSustainable Structural Solutions Discuss a project

Scube / Team

Two chartered engineers, complementary disciplines.

Scube is deliberately small. The engineers you speak to are the engineers who do the work and sign it. Where a project needs more hands, we bring in collaborators we have worked with for years, under our direction and responsibility.

George Vasdravellis

MEng PhD FHEA · Director · Edinburgh

Chartered structural engineer with more than twenty years in steel and steel–concrete composite structures, seismic design and advanced structural analysis. Diploma in Civil Engineering from Democritus University of Thrace; PhD from Politecnico di Milano (2007) on composite structures; post-doctoral research at the University of Western Sydney and the University of New South Wales on seismic-resilient systems and composite beams.

Associate Professor of Structural Engineering at Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, where he leads a research group on seismic resilience, demountable and reusable connections, fracture mechanics and additively manufactured (3D-printed) steel structures. His research on composite beams has been adopted into design standards, and his experimental and numerical work on steel connections and energy-dissipating devices has been validated by full-scale testing.

Through Scube he leads the design of steel and composite structures, connection design and specialist analysis, and is the first point of contact for all enquiries in the UK and Greece.

George Spanos

MEng MSc MBA · Associate · Athens

Chartered civil and structural engineer with nearly twenty years in geotechnical engineering and reinforced-concrete design, and in site supervision of buildings, infrastructure and energy projects. Diploma in Civil Engineering from Democritus University of Thrace; MSc in Geotechnical Engineering from École des Ponts ParisTech; MBA in International Business from Athens University of Economics and Business.

His geotechnical work spans ground-investigation interpretation, shallow and piled foundations, deep excavations and retaining structures in dense urban sites, and soil–structure interaction, including offshore site investigation with Fugro in the United Arab Emirates. In concrete he designs and supervises residential, commercial and industrial buildings to the Eurocodes and the Greek seismic code, from permit submission to completion.

At Scube he leads geotechnical and reinforced-concrete design, construction-stage engineering and site supervision.
